Thanks to my very helpful readers for their Word of the Day suggestions. Please keep them coming.
This one comes from my dad, and very accurately describes my current life situation.
Liminality: [Wikipedia definition] (from the Latin word līmen, meaning "a threshold") The liminal state is characterized by ambiguity, openness, and indeterminacy. One's sense of identity dissolves to some extent, bringing about disorientation. Liminality is a period of transition where normal limits to thought, self-understanding, and behavior are relaxed - a situation which can lead to new perspectives.
I do feel that I'm in a state of liminality; after graduating college I still haven't figured out what I want to do... not even close. But a liminal state leaves a hopeful possibility for the completion of the transition.
