"The only other sound’s the sweep of easy wind and downy flake." ~Robert Frost

Remember when snow days would bring you a delight incomparable to any other? When you'd wake up, look at your clock and realize you were late for school; then when you ran into your parents' room to ask why they didn't wake you, they told you it was a snow day, and happiness flooded you, knowing the day would be filled with hot chocolate, snowmen, grilled cheese, soup, movies, and sledding.

Now, of course I realize it would have to be a weekday for this scenario, and today is Sunday, so an early morning call from the school board wouldn't have happened even if I weren't the ripe old age of 25, but a snow-covered world still brings me back to making giant snow igloos with my dad in the front yard, or getting all bundled up and heading out into the glittering frozen white, armed with a scarf and a thermos of hot chocolate to go sledding. Or my favorite snow memory, when at midnight on the night of the first snow, my sisters and my dad and I would all walk into the woods, our footprints the first ones in the pristine blanket of snow. We found this outcrop of rock that was the perfect shelter and we'd hike to it and sit there, breathing the magic of the first snow, listening to the quiet, and letting the chill creep over our cheeks.

So, happy blizzard, darlings. I hope this finds you inside with someone to smile with, snuggled under blankets with a cup of tea in hand, feeling that little glow of magic that you did when you were a child, waking up on Monday morning to look out on a completely white world. Stay safe and warm.
